Axis Sound System

Saturday the 6th June will be the next Funky Reggae Party at Marshall’s Bar and this time I will be teaming up with top selectas from Chapter 4.

Here are  a few shots taken at last month’s sound clash between Axis and Steve Rice’s  Downbeat Melody sound system.

The next Axis outing will see the crew from the long running, high quality reggae night that is Bass Culture playing alongside your resident selector Dr. Huxtable.

The Chapter 4 posse consisting of Daddytone, Dillinger P and Slackears will be playing a wide selection of musical styles, including Roots reggae, Dub, Ska, Rock steady, vintage and not so vintage Dancehall and a few one away monster mashers.

“We are very happy to announce that the guest acts at this year’s 1970 Reggae & Soul Revival event are Pat Kelly & Intensified!!

Pat Kelly is an absolute legend on the reggae scene and is consistently at the top of selectas and collectors favourites lists, including mine!

His beautiful soulful vocal style is absolutely right for the theme of the weekend and it’s going to be a real pleasure to hear the monster tunes that he cut as a soloist and for the legendary Techniques with Duke Reid and others.

Intensified guested for us at the first event a couple of years ago, and we are very glad to have them back on board again, their clean 60’s style complementing Pat perfectly.

Guest selectas on board for the weekend include Mark Wilson (Liquidator), Oxford Paul (Blue Cat) and Dr Huxtable (Axis Sound System), alongside usual suspects Brian (Scorcher) and Phil (Sounds and Pressure).

If you have missed this before, then make no mistake, you have been missing the event of the year for 60s reggae/soul.

The next outing for Axis will be the regular Marshalls Bar event in Hebden Bridge on Sat 4th April. 9pm till 2am. Admission free.

Downbeat Melody sound system from Bristol, run by Steve Rice and Mc.Champion will be playing alongside Axis sound system on 2nd May ‘09. This promises to be a scorcher of a night. Not to be missed. More details soon.

Time to pull on your boogie shoes once more and head over to Marshall’s Bar, Hebden Bridge for some top notch reggae sound system action.

Guest DJ at this JA soiree (that would make a good toast over the right riddim) will be Rob Millichamp. Mr M will be spinning a fine selection of vintage 45s with Dr Huxtable right across the board from ska to classic reggae .

A New addition to the festival circuit for 2009 will be the Bearded Theory festival in lovely Derbyshire.

It runs May 15th, 16th and 17th and will be an early start to the season.

Tickets are very cheap and the festival won awards for ‘Best small festival’ in 2008.

Axis sound will have a marquee and will be joined by the Chapter 4 posse, resident reggae promoters/Djs at the Trades Club in Hebden Bridge.

Dr. Huxtable from the Axis Sound System will be playing some vintage JA nuggets for the last couple of hours at the next Cabaret Heaven event at the Trades Club in Hebden Bridge, on Sat Dec 13th.

Cabaret Heaven is a regular high quality night at the Trades. A wide range of cabaret acts from around the country frequent the night where variety is the key to a very entertaining night.
